LechResort Guide - The Skiing
The Skiing in Lech
Lech combined with Oberlech, Stubenbach, Zug and Zürs create a single large ski region with plenty of variety, and tons of pistes that will take you straight back to your chalet door. Lech gets a lot of snow; almost twice as much as St. Anton and three times as much as Kitzbühel. The height of the resort is also very impressive by Austrian standards, making it relatively snow-sure. Furthermore, the excellent snow-making facilities mean that there is normally good skiing until well into April.
Lech has 84 cable cars and lifts, 260 km of well-tended pistes and 180 km of open slopes making it a varied ski area suitable for all abilities. For beginners, Lech offers some lovely nursery slopes located in the village. There are also some gentle blues higher up the mountain which are very accessible and allow you to enjoy the stunning views.
For the intermediate skiers, Lech offers a tremendous amount of different terrain. Head to the Schlegelkopf and Schlosskopf lifts for the best intermediate slopes. From Lech you can also access the brilliant intermediate runs in Zürs via the Rufikopf lift. You also have the added bonus of being able to ski right back to the centre from here. For advanced skiers, the options are slightly more limited but if you know where to go, great powder skiing can be had. Stick to the Lech ski area for the best off piste and challenging blacks.
For those that want to try something a bit different there is a brilliant Snow Fun Park, 26 km of cross country tracks, 15 km of winter hiking trails, and a natural toboggan run which is floodlit in the evening.
What We Like
Hus Nr 8
This is a fantastic traditional restaurant, with great food, charming service and a perfect atmosphere. Try the national dishes of Austria and you will not be disappointed.
A brilliant event like no other. This artistic extravaganza involves gondola cinemas and live DJs and bands in lift stations. The atmosphere is electric and should not be missed.
Dance Café Arlberg
Party like they did in the 60s. This retro après party is an exceptional event in the Lech calendar. The atmosphere is carefree and entry is free. A throw-back of the glamorous years of skiing of the past.
