Mountain Restaurant Guide Lech
Rud-AlpeThe Rud-Alpe is not far above Lech but we think it is far enough away to be called a mountain restaurant. It is easy to ski to and if you are feeling energetic you can also walk there from the town. The restaurant is a quaint little place made of wood from old ski huts. The atmosphere is cosy and welcoming and the service is friendly and attentive. On a sunny day the terrace is a spectacular place to spend the afternoon enjoying the delicious food and gluehwein (Mulled wine: apparently it is the best in Lech). It can get very busy as everyone in Lech seems to favour this place when the sun is shining, book a table in advance if you are visiting during high season. It is also admirable that they have such a wide range of dishes available for vegetarians, something which is pretty much unheard of in Austria. This is the perfect final stop on the way back to your chalet; however, if you want to carry on skiing after lunch you may want to visit one of the higher restaurants.
BalmalpThe Balmalp is located at the top of the Zug chairlift but it can also be reached from the Lech side by walking on your skis up the hill for about 200 metres. The menu is small but the food is simple and delicious. This restaurant is well known for its pizzas so if you are not sure what to order then go for the pizza. The restaurant has a modern feel and the toilets are located at the top of a lift meaning that you avoid any awkward stair descents in ski boots. This restaurant (like most) can get very busy and is not the best place to spend a long meandering lunch as it can feel rather hectic and loud. This is a great place to grab a quick, substantial lunch before continuing with your afternoon ski.
Hagen's Dorfmetzgerei und ImbissThis place is based in Lech and not up the mountain but it is definitely worth a mention for lunch! Hagen's Dorfmetzgerei und Imbiss started its life as a simple butcher but realised that the quality of their food could match the top hotels in Lech and so decided to open a small restaurant attached to the butcher. This place would suit someone who wanted a late lunch after skiing or a quick snack. The food is delicious, especially the dry aged beef but you will certainly be happy with whatever you order. The surroundings are rather plain which may not suit everyone’s taste but the food really speaks for itself. The salads are also extremely fresh and full of flavour with tasty combinations. The cakes are simply mouth-watering. This family-run place has a lot of heart and soul which so many eateries in Lech lack; definitely worth a visit.
What We Like
Hus Nr 8
This is a fantastic traditional restaurant, with great food, charming service and a perfect atmosphere. Try the national dishes of Austria and you will not be disappointed.
A brilliant event like no other. This artistic extravaganza involves gondola cinemas and live DJs and bands in lift stations. The atmosphere is electric and should not be missed.
Dance Café Arlberg
Party like they did in the 60s. This retro après party is an exceptional event in the Lech calendar. The atmosphere is carefree and entry is free. A throw-back of the glamorous years of skiing of the past.
