CourchevelResort Guide - Après Ski
Après Ski Bars in Courchevel
Le Cap Horn
This astonishingly big venue situated at a height of 2,100m will astound you with its subtle nautical design; in complete contrast with its alpine surroundings. The incredibly extensive sun terrace with row after row of tables will fill up to the brim during the high season and weekends; you will see how this high-class restaurant bar turns into an après ski to never forget, with DJs booming out the tunes and people dancing on the tables in their ski boots.
If you wish to enjoy this kind of après ski without being pushed around by the crowds, why not enquire after the Le Cap Horn's Member's Yacht Club with a private lounge and terrace that gives you a full view of the mayhem below. Do not be confused into thinking that the Le Cap Horn hosts a common ski-bum après ski; the Le Cap Horn is one of the only places in the Alps to host a first-class but crazy party in the afternoon.
This fact is obvious by the quality of the furniture at Le Cap Horn; with their authentic old wooden tables, you will observe a stark difference between this place and other outside terraces. You will find, however, that a lot of the other refined bars are calmer and encourage a more sophisticated and less rowdy kind of clientèle. We would encourage you to also dine at the Le Cap Horn if you feel so inclined, as the seafood you will get here is the most exquisite that you will find in the Alps.
This restaurant bar is not quite as high-class as the other popular après ski places in Courchevel, however, this is undoubtedly a favourite in 1850. Its central location means that Le Refuge is a perfect choice for those of you who want to find somewhere closer to home when getting off the slopes; or for those who wish to stay in après until late.
Le Refuge is also a very relaxed place in which après ski has no time limit like some places, so you will not feel the pressure to leave Le Refuge when it starts to get dark; they stay open from midday until midnight. This is an intimate bar which is livened up by its live music ensuring that the place does not feel flat for you and your friends. Le Refuge will attract a different crowd to the other après places listed due to its cheaper drinks and more carefree attitude, so it's worth bearing this in mind.
Le Denali – Grandes Alpes Private Hotel
Le Denali is one of our favourite places to après ski if you are with a group of friends and want a fancy but chilled out drink after getting down from the slopes. The massive rustic leather sofas are placed around the restaurant bar in the snow, and some are beautifully positioned right next to the piste; offering you a perfect view point for people-watching the skiers of Courchevel. This of course means that Le Denali is in a great location, straight off the main piste coming down, just make sure you do not miss it on your right!
The sophisticated ambiance here is appreciated by all customers, and if you decide that you wish to stay in this sunny spot for some early dinner; you will find some idyllic looking tables all laid up for you to dine in style right in the midst of all the snow. Or if you get chilly, do not be shy of entering the main restaurant and bar to snuggle up in the warm and smart areas inside. One thing that can make a trip to Le Denali a shame, however, is that if the weather is bad you will not be able to appreciate their most appealing features of the sofas outside; hence, it';s definitely the place to go when the sun's out.
Le Bar des Airelles
This is the hottest new après ski scene in town so make sure you do not miss this place on your visit. With ski-valets who great you at the door to swap your ski boots for house slippers, Le Bar des Airelles really shows you how they have managed to provide you with top-quality service for après ski, not an easy task.
So with your feet safely and comfortably out of those godforsaken ski boots, you now know you have no time limit to your enjoyment. The bar comprises an outdoor terrace which can be reached straight off the Gloriette and the Relais de Skieurs slopes, and also a specific smoking room with its own complimentary whiskey bar. One of our favourite things about Le Bar des Airelles is the all-day menu which features all traditional alpine food like raclette and fondue which are perfect for snacking on.
The fashionable drinks to be seen enjoying at this bar are the vin chaud, the liquor hot chocolates and of course copious amounts of champagne. Due to this place being up-and-coming do not be disappointed if the crowds are not as big as you expected, but it is better to set a trend rather than to miss it, is it not?
