Après Ski Bars in Chamonix
La Chavanne Bar
This is the place to start your relaxing après ski. An outside bar, comfy foam chair-cushions and best-of-all: a hot-tub. This spot has an incredible view of the Mer de Glace and is open everyday, however, this depends on weather conditions so watch out! Although I doubt you would want to frequent this outside bar on a chilly day anyway. If you wish to pamper yourself on top of a mountain do not forget your swimwear and a bottle of champagne when you go up the slopes because this hot-tub will make you feel like a superstar.
To get to La Chavanne Bar take the cable car to the Flégère, then take the green slope La Trappe to La Chavanne chairlift (the first chair on the right). Then you get off at the top of the big rock, and slide onto the blue track La Chavanne to the entrance. (You'll pass over it on the chairlift so you can see exactly where to go). The best event at La Chavanne Bar is the live DJ and saxophonist playing every Saturday from 12pm to 4pm, the atmosphere can only be described simply as très cool. Be aware though that the snacks in La Chavanne Bar are only fast food, this is not always what you want after a good ski. If you are looking for some fine cuisine you may have to move on from here.
If you want to après like there is no tomorrow, this is the place to do it. You will not find a livelier or louder après ski bar in Chamonix, it is the place to be for a party after a day on the slopes (that is if you do not mind be shoved and pushed from all sides with beer flying everywhere). Chambre Neuf should only be attended if you want to experience that crazy and infamous après ski that some of us love, I cannot recommend this to anyone who detests a lack of personal space, dancing on tables, or cheap beer.
The best time to come here for this atmosphere is between 5pm to 7pm from Sunday to Friday when they put a live band on the stage for our entertainment. Chambre Neuf is known to be the place to meet people. Tourists, extreme skiers and Scandinavians all come here, you will find some great personalities and friendly staff. It is not advisable to eat here, however, food reviews are generally bad and service can be slow when staff are trying to deal with the excited crowds.
The 'Agile Rabbit' as it translates into English, believes in its wine, heart and soul. The owners have thrown their passion into the essence and style of the bar as much as into what they sell. You will find this place a classy and relaxed style of après ski, if beer and dancing on bars does not appeal, Lapin Agile will delight you with what it can offer. Even if you are not a wine connoisseur, you will still be able to appreciate the refinement of this wine collection. Lapin Agile offers fine wines from France, Italy, Spain, Australia, California and many more. This is a perfect place to relax with friends or as a couple. They also serve a local coffee from near Torino in Italy called Miscela 1882 which they have blended with Marogogype seeds to produce a chocolaty taste: it is heaven. The food at Lapin Agile matches the quality of its wine, so if you wish to stay on for dinner, this would not be a bad choice.
Bar Les Rhododendrons
Located in the Hotel Les Rhododendrons, this quiet bar offers acoustic music sets for you to enjoy when you are down off the slopes. The cosy little bar is full of leather sofas and a log fire but if the weather is fine, the terrace is the place to relax. The terrace shares its spot on the roundabout with the tiny traditional church of Les Praz and a large garden with a stone water trough. The bar serves tasty pizzas and snacks from 3pm onwards for the famished après skiers, however, do not expect gourmet quality. Located at the foot of the Flégère cable car, it is an easy place to go and grab a table, a jug of Pimms and wait for the bands to start at 6pm.
