Mountain Restaurant Guide Aspen
Cloud NineVisit Cloud Nine and you will get to experience true Austrian alpine charm deep in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. With help from the Austrian head chef this place has managed to create an authentic European atmosphere with delicious traditional cuisine. The fondue rivals even the best mountain restaurants across the pond and the raclette is a must try; it will warm your soul on even the coldest wintry day. The view is spectacular and it is an easy spot to reach on skis. Cloud Nine has two lunch sittings, one at 12:00 and the other at 2:30 and it is recommend that you make a reservation in advance. The 2:30 sitting can turn into a real party with loud music and dancing on the tables. This creates an incredibly fun atmosphere and many have commented on it being the highlight of their holiday. However, if you would prefer a quieter, more relaxing lunch then definitely book to eat at the earlier time. They also offer evening dining on Thursdays which includes a ride up on a snow cat.
The CliffhouseThis restaurant is renowned for its delicious Mongolian BBQ fare, out of this world views, and a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The Cliffhouse serves all the standard mountain hut cuisine; burgers, chilli, and hot soups but the restaurant really stands out because of its BBQ. Select the fresh vegetables that you would like, then choose a meat (beef, chicken, calamari or shrimp) and a sauce and wait while the chef works his magic. The result is a delicious, hearty meal. The portions are massive so if you are not very hungry you should consider sharing a bowl. At $70 a dish this place is not cheap but remember that you are also paying for extraordinary views of Pyramid Peak and the entire Maroon Creek Valley. We think food always tastes better when accompanied with stunning scenery!
Aspen Mountain ClubThe Aspen Mountain Club is the epitome of excessive indulgence; perched in the clouds at 11,212 feet it really does feel like you are on top of the world. This is a members only club but if you are a frequent visitor to Aspen then we would highly recommend the investment. One of the major shareholders, Paula Crown, describes the idea behind Aspen Mountain Club, "We are all victims of velocity-with e-mail and cell phones-so a place where people could unwind among friends with a great lunch, a book or a game of backgammon seemed ideal." This place is much more than a restaurant; it is a tranquil oasis where you can sit back, relax, and really enjoy your time in Aspen. You can enjoy an incredibly delicate and creative meal while wearing comfy slippers as your ski boots are warming up nicely in the boot room. This place attracts a certain clientele where you are likely to hear talk about private jets and super yachts. If you receive an invite to this place you will not regret the visit. It is perfection at the top of a mountain.
