Dining out in Verbier is about entering a world of culinary possibilities. The international appeal of the resort is reflected in the bustling bistros, cafes and fine dining establishments. Whether you are seeking a taste of traditional Swiss cuisine, or hankering after favoured dishes from back home, you won’t be disappointed.
In high season, you’ll discover that visitors pack out the most popular restaurants, but it’s still possible to find opportunities for more intimate dinners. So where are the best places to eat in Verbier right now?
Café-Restaurant La Marlenaz (at Case Postale 105) unashamedly makes the most of its location, boasting one of the finest views in the resort from its chalet terrace. But a view is not enough to fill empty stomachs! What sets La Marlenaz apart from its arrivals is the dedication to producing home-cooked Swiss food, from enticing fondue to dishes featuring wild boar and venison. This is a restaurant that offers an impressive assortment of delights.
La Marlenaz is busy at lunchtimes, where the relatively informal setting attracts those looking for a long, lazy lunch. In the evenings, however, diners are drawn in by the promise of perfectly cooked food in an absorbing location.
Au Vieux Verbier (Rue de Medran 43) is increasingly viewed as a restaurant in which it is great to be seen. Prices are higher than many counterparts, but this offers an indication of the beautiful cuisine that’s on offer and the relative exclusivity of the restaurant. You are advised to reserve a table in advance, even out of season.
At Au Vieux many people opt for the extensive game menu or for the Potance (a local delicacy), while the lobster pasta provides an extravagant and succulent alternative.
If you’re looking for something different, then should you consider making the trip to La Marmotte? During the season, you can practically ski to the door, but things become rather more difficult in the summer months. A lengthy walk through the mountains is useful for building up an appetite, but does La Marmotte live up to the standards that have been set here over the years?
Our view is that this remains one of the very best places to eat within Verbier and its surroundings. The outdoor terrace offers a wonderful location for enjoying the beautiful food, while the restaurant retains its welcoming atmosphere and remains popular with families. Having arrived on foot, some guests still choose to simply slide their way back down the mountain, creating a real spectacle.
When you are enjoying life in your luxury ski chalet, it can sometimes feel like a drag to make your way out to a restaurant. Many of our guests opt to make use of the available chefs and catering experts, who provide authentic local dishes and a range of international cuisine.
It would be a shame, however, to miss out on the wonderful eating experiences that are available in the resort. Eating out in Verbier is about great food, exciting company and some of the most memorable locations to be found anywhere in Europe. In short, no visit to this Swiss resort would be complete without making the time to enjoy the vast array of appealing dining experiences.
